Jewellery Book

“Jewellery is powerful, and it can be loaded with meaning. It marks life and it gives importance to it. The Orb logo itself is a jewel, symbolising the world with its past, its present and through adding the Saturn ring, its future. It’s very British and very Vivienne”

– Andreas Kronthaler, Creative Director, Vivienne Westwood

‘Vivienne Westwood & Jewellery’ is the first book dedicated to the designer’s jewellery creations, created in close collaboration with the house and written by fashion critic, Alexander Fury. ‘Safety-pins piercing faces, pearl chokers and droplet earrings borrowed from Elizabethan portraits, bondage chains and sado-masochistic buckled cuffs and dog-collars, crowns, medallions and bejewelled regal orbs; the jewellery vocabulary of Vivienne Westwood is as distinct and immediately recognisable as that of her clothing,’ explains the author and renowned fashion editor. This lavish encyclopaedia of Vivienne Westwood jewellery evokes the blend of luxury and rebellion that is the house’s signature style. Whether a skilfully rendered safety-pin brooch, a hand-strung ‘broken’ pearl necklace or the iconic Westwood orb in crystal, these are pieces that define the house’s codes.

Following an introduction by Fury, ten chapters present themes including ‘Pearls’, ‘Do It Yourself’, ‘Pagan’ and ‘Drops & Bows’ acquainting readers with the recurring motifs, techniques and inspirations of the world of Vivienne Westwood jewellery. The book illustrated by nearly two hundred images shot by acclaimed still-life photographer Philippe Lacombe. From punk masterworks, such as the ‘Hardcore Paperclip Earrings’ and ‘Chaos Necklace,’ through the pastel-toned ‘Flower Skull Necklace’ and ‘Nymph Earrings’, to the upcycled ‘Simone Earrings’ and the pagan ‘Conkers Necklace’, contemporary creations mingle with reimagined classics. Each piece is indexed with its name, collection season, and what is often an extraordinary range of materials. Through evocative still life vignettes and close-ups, images of catwalk models and portraits of Vivienne Westwood herself, and a rich catalogue of Westwood jewellery through the ages, this volume welcomes readers to a vibrant world that draws on the house’s rich heritage. The book includes a foreword from Vivienne Westwood Creative Director, Andreas Kronthaler.

‘Vivienne Westwood & Jewellery’ is published to accompany an international exhibition of the same name which debuted in late 2024 at Te Papa, National Museum of New Zealand, followed by Shanghai in July 2025 and will continue to tour globally across Asia, the USA and Europe. Visitors can expect eclectic pairings of jewellery and garments – each creation presented as an objet d’art, surrounded by a mélange of sounds, catwalk looks, graphic wall collages, imagery and video, recalling past collections and runway shows, offering a unique perspective into the Vivienne Westwood world.

The ‘Vivienne Westwood & Jewellery’ book is available online and across selected boutiques.
